If you receive a text message or an iMessage that is spam, or is from someone with whom you would rather not communicate, then the block feature in your iPhone’s Messages app can be extremely valuable. Once you have blocked a contact in this way, they will no longer be able to send you a text message or iMessage from any of the numbers or addresses attached to their contact.
Your iPhone keeps a running list of the contacts that you have blocked. Our guide below will show you how to check this list of blocked text message senders through the Messages settings on your iPhone.
View the Blocked List of Contacts on an iPhone
The steps in this article were written with an iPhone 5, in iOS 9. This same method will work for other iPhone models running iOS 9, including the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, and other models that care compatible with iOS 9. Additionally, since the blocked contact feature was added in iOS 7, you can view the list of blocked messagers in iOS 7 or iOS 8 as well.
Step 1: Open Settings.
Step 2: Scroll down and open Messages.
Step 3: Scroll down and select the Blocked option.
You can remove a number or contact from your blocked message sender list by tapping the Edit button at the top-right corner of this screen, tapping the red circle to the left of the contact, then tapping the Unblock button.
Is There a Separate List for Blocked Calls, Text Messages, and FaceTime?
It is possible for you to block contacts through the Phone app, the Messages app, and the FaceTime app. You can even block a contact directly from their entry in the Contacts app. However, these lists are not separate. There is one comprehensive list of blocked contacts and phone numbers on your iPhone. Adding someone to the list from one location will add them for the others as well. Additionally, if you remove someone from one of your blocked contact lists, then they will be able to communicate with you through any type of contact.
