The text message screen on an iPhone can include a row that says “Subject.” However, if you do not wish to use this, then you might be looking for a way to hide the subject field in text messages on your iPhone 5. This field is not required, and you can definitely send text or iMessages without including one.
If you are unsure about whether you have a subject field and need to hide it, then look at the image below. The indicated row is the Subject field.
If you do not see this, then your subject field is already hidden. However, if your Messages screen looks like that image, then you can follow our guide below to hide your subject field.
Hide the Messages Subject Field on an iPhone 5
These steps were written with the aid of an iPhone 5, in iOS 9.3. These steps will work for other iPhone models that are using iOS 9.3 as well. This will hide the subject field for text messages as well as iMessages. If you decide later that you would prefer to show the subject field, simply follow these same steps to re-enable the setting.
Step 1: Open Settings.
Step 2: Open Messages.
Step 3: Turn off Show Subject Field.
The setting is turned off when there is no green shading around the Show Subject Field button. It is turned off in the picture above.
