It is very common for telemarketers or other undesirables to obtain your phone number, which will result in a lot of unwanted attempts to contact you. Fortunately your iPhone 5 has a feature that can be very helpful when this occurs. The call-blocking feature on the iPhone 5 can be used not only to stop phone calls from a particular number or contact, but also from people that are sending you unwanted text messages.
Our guide below will show you how to add a contact or phone number from the Messages app to the list of blocked callers on your iPhone. Once you have completed the steps below, any phone calls, FaceTime calls or text messages from the blocked contact will no longer show up on your device.
Blocking a Text Message Contact on an iPhone 5
The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 5, in iOS 9. These steps will work for any iPhone model that is using iOS 7 or higher. The blocking feature was not available until the release of iOS 7, so earlier versions do not have access to it.
Step 1: Open the Messages app.
Step 2: Select the text message conversation with the contact that you would like to block.
Step 3: Tap the Details button at the top-right corner of the screen.
Step 4: Tap the small i button to the right of the contact’s name or number.
Step 5: Scroll to the bottom of this screen and tap the Block this Caller button.
Step 6: Tap the red Block Caller button to confirm that you wish to block this contact from sending you text messages, as well as phone calls and FaceTime messages.
Have you blocked a lot of contacts on your iPhone, and you would like to see the full list of numbers and contacts? This article will show you where to find that information.
